Ilona Schwarzenbach-Meixner

Education

Ilona Schwarzenbach-Meixner, born in 1963, studied at the University of Zurich (lic.iur. 1987) and was admitted to the Zurich bar in 1990.

Professional experience

Ilona started her career as a District Clerk (1988-1989). After being admitted to the bar she worked in the legal department at the headquarters of a leading Swiss bank in Zurich (1991-1993) being involved in all legal aspects of the bank. Thereafter, her career focused on tax law.

As a tax commissioner with the Zurich Cantonal Tax Administration she gained experience in the department for inheritance and gift taxes as well as the department for corporate tax and taxes for self-employed individuals (1993-2000). As Senior Manager with Ernst & Young (2001-2004) she advised multinational companies in international and cross-border tax law for individuals regarding expatriate taxation. As a Senior Associate in the tax team of Niederer Kraft & Frey Attorneys-at-law, Zurich she advised clients on all aspects of domestic and international taxation (2005-2010).  

Ilona is practicing as a self-employed attorney-at-law and tax advisor since 2010 in Zurich (until 2023) and in Herrliberg (since 2024).

Areas of expertise

Ilona's main areas of expertise are tax advising and planning for individuals and entrepreneurs in all aspects of domestic and international taxation, particularly income and wealth taxes, inheritance and gift taxes, social security matters and real estate gains tax. She performs tax planning for foreign nationals migrating to Switzerland and prepares complex tax returns.
